Members of the O'dua People's Congress (OPC) and some unidentified hoodlums on Monday stormed the Ikorodu Expressway and unleashed mayhem on motorists and pedestrians alike.

The group caused heavy vehicular traffic that lasted for hours and also destroyed almost all the campaign billboards and posters of the opposition party along that axis.

The whole scenario had begun when the civil rights group and socio-cultural organisations under the aegis of Coalition of Concerned Nigerians (CCN) decided to stage a protest for the removal of the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega and also don't want card readers for the election.

Then the hoodlums capitalised on the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation's peaceful protest to wreak havoc on hapless Lagosians.

The protesters had occupied the whole axis of the Ikorodu Expressway when the hoodlums struck and made away with valuables of the motorists and pedestrians.

The protesters were demanding the sack of the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega before the March 28 and April 11 general elections.

The protest was in fulfillment of the promise by the OPC National Coordinator, Chief Gani Adams, who said the protest was to register their zero confidence in Jega.

He said they had no choice but to call for Jega's sack owing to his alleged gross incompetence especially as regarding distribution of the Permanent Voters Card (PVC).

He said, "We have our reasons for staging this rally and part of the reasons include the need for Prof. Jega to, as a matter of urgency, proceed on terminal leave or be replaced with a credible administrator before the elections.
