Report broke on Tuesday that the NFF was negotiating with Oliseh following the sack of Stephen Keshi over the weekend “over breaches of core terms of his contract.”
“The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed it is in talks with former Super Eagles’ captain Sunday Oliseh with regards to the vacant position of the team’s Head Coach,” the NFF stated on its website on Wednesday.
It further revealed that the NFF president Amaju Pinnick and Oliseh met in London to hold talks on Tuesday.
Chairman of the NFF Technical and Development Committee confirmed: “An offer has been made, and there is understanding, but we have to work out the final details of the agreement in a few days. Of course, the Executive Board has to give approval for his appointment based on the final terms to be agreed.”
The NFF says that Oliseh is also expected to come with a foreign technical assistant with a “job description will centre around development programmes.”
However, interim coach, Salisu Yusuf will remain a member of the backroom staff, according to the NFF as he will be saddled with focusing on players from the country’s leagues.
The NFF is looking at hooking Oliseh on the long-term as he will be expected to draw up a five-year developmental plan.

At present he is a Fifa instructor, and also a member of Fifa Technical Study Group.
The former Nigerian captain holds a Uefa Pro License, and has coached Belgian lower division club, Vervietois between 2008 and 2009.
Sunday Oliseh says he is comfortable with the five million Naira a month that was paid to his predecessor. The 40-year-old will replace Keshi and he will be handed a five-year contract. “Oliseh is ready to earn the same pay Keshi was on. This again shows he is ready to serve his fatherland and money is not what is driving him. This is another good sign with the decision to give him the job without much fanfare,”
