The Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) presidential candidate, Owolabi Olubudo, has said that he stepped down from the race in favour of President Goodluck Jonathan in consideration of the noticeable achievements of the president.
In a statement made available to Sunday Independent at the weekend, Olubudo also explained that his action was inevitable following his party’s endorsement and adoption of Jonathan, which he said is in order.
Olubudo explained that with his achievements, especially through the Transformational Agenda, Jonathan stands tall above other candidates, hence the DPP did not find it difficult to endorse him for the March 28 presidential election.
He cited the Boko Haram insurgency, which he stressed, is being tamed with the cooperation of the international community, as well as the comparative improvement in the power sector.
Olubode stressed that Jonathan has been able to manage the fall-out of the unstable crude price fall and its impact on the economy, adding that things would have been worse, but for what he termed the purpose-driven governance of Mr. President.
